El Zaguan is a family owned restaurant in Yreka and Food Truck in Weed. The Food Truck is parked at the South Weed (now Vista) exit off of the Nickel (I-5) across from the Pilot and next to Grocery Outlet. They have an iconic view of the heart of Weed on Mount Shasta and very tasty food!
Being the curious person that I am - I can't help myself! I asked Juan (husband of the husband/wife owners) where the name came from El Zaguan. Literally it translates to 'the hall,' but Juan says it has many more meanings in the Spanish language. It's more about a passageway or gateway. Merriam-Webster's definition: "a passageway leading from the entrance door to the central patio in houses commonly found in the southwestern U.S. and Mexico." Juan told me his wife named the restaurant El Zaguan for the front porch of their first restaurant in Yreka.
I had the asada Street Taco and it was deliciously perfect! I figured I’d start with the basics and now I will go back and move through the menu. A guy sitting next to me (at their one orange picnic table) was having a polo burrito. He said it was as good as he could get in Mexico. I agree the food is just good Mexican street food!
